La Palma de Majorca
Located in the sparkling Mediterranean, La Palma de Majorca, the capital city of the Balearic Islands, is a gem waiting to be explored. With its rich history, stunning architecture, and plethora of attractions, this cruise port offers a unique blend of culture, adventure, and relaxation. Here’s why La Palma de Majorca should be on every traveler’s bucket list.
Founded by the Romans in 123 BC, La Palma de Majorca boasts a history as vibrant as its modern-day attractions. The city's strategic location made it a coveted prize for various empires, including the Moors and the Catalans. Each left an indelible mark on the city’s architecture and culture. The imposing Bellver Castle, built in the 14th century, is a testament to the Gothic era, while the Almudaina Palace reflects Moorish influences. Walking through the old town, with its narrow, winding streets and ancient buildings, feels like stepping back in time.
La Palma de Majorca is not just rich in history; it’s also a thriving modern city. The port is one of the busiest in the Mediterranean, welcoming over 1.7 million cruise passengers annually. The city itself is home to approximately 400,000 residents, making it the largest city in the Balearic Islands. Tourism is a significant part of the local economy, with over 12 million visitors each year, drawn by the island’s sunny climate, pristine beaches, and vibrant cultural scene.
